Bank Garnishment / Bank Levy1 / Order to Withhold
- Why did you garnish my bank account?
- If you have a delinquent balance, we may garnish your bank account. Delinquent
balances include taxes, penalties, fees, and interest, as well as non-tax debts
owed to other government agencies and courts.
- What is the garnishment
amount?
- Bank garnishments are for 100% of your delinquent balance. In certain
circumstances, we reduce a bank garnishment amount. When we do, we mail a garnishment
reduction notice, and we will also fax it if requested.
- How is a bank garnishment released?
- If we issue a bank garnishment in error, we will delay the bank garnishment
while we verify the error. Once we confirm the error, we immediately mail and fax
a garnishment release notice to the bank. Note: If the bank already
sent the payment to us, then we refund the payment to you after we process it.
- If you think we issued a bank garnishment in error, call (800) 689-4776 so we
can analyze your account. If you are outside the U.S., call (916) 845-4470.
- I filed bankruptcy. Does that stop my bank garnishment?
