General Information
1099 Internet Filing is the electronic filing option available for filing your Forms 1098, 1099, 5498 and W-2G with FTB. Send your text file formatted in accordance with the same record layout required for magnetic media files. See the IRS Pub 1220 and FTB 8305 for the record layout for information returns.
All you need to transmit your file is:
- E-mail and Internet access
- Pentium based PC
- Browser that supports SSL and 128-bit encryption
- Modem or connection to accommodate the size of your file
How To Get Started
Fax or mail us your application form FTB 4092A, to receive your User ID and Password necessary for Internet filing. The fax number and mailing address are on the application. Submit only one application, even if you are sending more than one file, or sending files for more than one business entity.
Once you submit an application, you do not need to submit another one unless:
- There are any changes to the information provided on the original application, or
- You submitted an application for a particular tax year, but did not actually send any files for that tax year.
Our system automatically deletes the application information at process year-end, for transmitters that submitted an application, but did not actually use the Internet to send any files for that tax year.
We send your User ID by email and your initial Password by regular mail at the beginning of February each year. For applications received after the initial mailing in February, we send the User ID and Password within 2 weeks.
You must change your initial Password within 30 days of the date of the letter. Passwords are case sensitive, so you must remember exactly how you typed in your Password when you change it.
