What is an online installment agreement?

If you have a financial hardship and cannot pay your tax liability in full, you may request to make monthly installment payments. If we approve your request, we agree to allow you to pay the tax you owe in monthly installments instead of immediately paying the amount in full. Your payment amount should be based on your ability to pay. Once we accept your online installment agreement application, you should receive a written notice within 30 days. You can only make one installment request per year.

Who qualifies for an online installment agreement?

  • Agree to pay your account in 36 months or less
  • Have filed all required personal income tax returns

Note: If your account balance is over $10,000 and less than $25,000 and you need an installment agreement, please contact the Franchise Tax Board at (800) 689-4776, Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
