Check Individual e-file Return Status

Check the status of your e-file return online. There are four statuses:

1. Pending: Your return is in pre-processing.
   
   
2. Accepted: We received your return and have started processing it.
   
   
3. Rejected: We found errors that need to be fixed before we can process your return. Included is information on how to fix each error we found.
   
   
4. Unknown: The social security number and Declaration Control Number (DCN) combination you entered does not match our records.

To check the status of your e-file return, you will need:

• Your social security number.
• The Declaration Control Number (DCN) from the top of your:
  
  • California e-file Return Authorization for Individuals (form FTB 8453 or FTB 8453-OL)
    
  • California e-file Signature Authorization for Individuals (form FTB 8879)
    
  • California e-file Payment Record for Individuals (form FTB 8455)
